Camping in the Rain.

I love to camp. It is probably one of my most favorite things in the world to do. It has been kind of a crazy summer and we haven't had a moment to really go camping. So for our 10 year anniversary, my hubby took a 4 day weekend so the family could head up on the mountain and camp. Just spend our days fishing  + hiking and our nights around the campfire.

Worst weekend ever to go camping....

 

 

Thursday:

We headed up the mountain on Thursday, Aug 21st.

We got to our camping spot + set up camp.

 

 

 

And then it started to drizzle. Not a big deal really. It rained off and on all afternoon. It never really rained hard, but there were a few times we had to take shelter in the tent or under a tree. So we played around the camp spot for a few more hours before heading out to go fishing during a break in the rain.

 

We made wooden bows + slingshots.

I got a lot of awesome help gathering firewood.

We headed back to camp as it started getting dark + settled in for the night.

 

Friday:

It had rained pretty hard through part of the night, so everything outside was wet in the morning. There was a thick, thick fog all around us. You could just tell it was going to be a very nasty weather day....

So before the rain started we decided to hike to Porcupine Falls.

It was a fun hike down but we only were able to spend 15 minutes there before the rain started. And it poured. And it didn't stop. We hiked back up as fast as we could and headed back to camp. By the time we got back to camp there was so much water everywhere. The little stream that runs beside the camp spot was fuller. The campfire pit was filling up with water. And it really didn't like that rain was going to stop any time soon.

Later in the afternoon we made the sad decision to head down off the mountain and end our camping trip. We quickly loaded up our things, leaving some behind to go pick up on a later date when it wasn't so crappy.

 

It was pouring....

As sad as I was to have to cut our camping trip short, it was a good thing we did. We haven't even been able to see the mountains all day today because they are covered in clouds. The mountains are getting even more drenched.  Hopefully in the next weekend or two, we can head back up for a weekend camping trip....and have wonderful, sunny weather.
